ABOUT
Shake the Dust is an American indie rock band rooted in the wide-open textures of classic country rock and the emotional immediacy of modern indie. Formed in Charlotte during the uncertainty of the pandemic, the band began as a creative lifeline for singer-songwriter Phil Lomac—a longtime craftsman of understated, melody-first songwriting—and quickly evolved into a collaborative, full-band force.
Drawing from influences that stretch from John Denver to Jimi Hendrix, Shake the Dust blends analog warmth, textured guitars, and introspective lyricism into a sound that feels both timeless and immediate. Their self-titled debut EP introduced listeners to a band unafraid to straddle genres—channeling 70s FM country-rock, heartland indie, and raw, live-in-the-room energy—while exploring themes of reconnection, resilience, and the quiet weight of shared experience.
At the center is Lomac, whose songwriting has long been defined by its deceptive simplicity—songs that unfold with an easy grace, anchored by a warm, expressive voice and an instinct for melody that resonates without pretense. Critics have noted his ability to create songs that feel effortless yet deeply human, prioritizing emotional connection over flash.
With their latest full-length album, Everything Will Be Okay, Shake the Dust expands that foundation into a richer, more expansive sonic landscape. The record builds on the band’s collaborative chemistry, pairing layered instrumentation with reflective storytelling that balances vulnerability and optimism. The arrangements are warm and considered, pedal steel, blended acoustic and electric guitars, weathered piano, but the writing is the engine. Shake the Dust tells stories that earn their runtime and plays them with a band that knows when to push and when to pull back.
It’s an album shaped by lived experience—marked by uncertainty, growth, and ultimately, a sense of forward motion—capturing the band at a moment where their sound feels both grounded and fully realized. Shake the Dust is a testament to persistence and creative reinvention—music born out of isolation that now thrives on connection, crafted by musicians who understand that sometimes the most powerful songs are the ones that don’t try too hard—they just tell the truth. At home in small clubs and on wide-open festival stages, Shake the Dust is the kind of artist that programmers book twice and audiences keep talking about.
